A fungus is a group of eukaryotic organisms belongs to kingdom fungi of the classification system, that make spores. Fungi, the word for more than one fungus, found everywhere and usually don’t cause infections.It includes unicellular microorganisms like yeasts and molds. But, you may sometimes get fungal infections on your skin, like ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, or vaginal yeast infection.

Learn who is at more risk of getting a fungal infection

§  Some people are also more likely to get an infection, based on risk factors. Individuals at risk include:
§   People with weak immune systems from medications, steroids, other infections or illnesses.
§   People taking antibiotics or immunosuppressant drugs for a long time.
§   People or babies who are unable to hold their urine (this creates a moist genital environment)
§  People who perspire heavily.
§  Persons who work or spend time in an environment where they come in contact with people who are at the high risk, such as nurses, school teachers, hospitalized patients, students, and coaches.

Areas at risk of a fungal infection

Because fungal spores are present in the air, so lungs and skin is an easy target for them. Parts of your skin that are moist are mostly affected. These parts include the areas between your toes, under the breast tissue, in the genital region (including the vaginal area), and between folds of skin.Fungal infections are rarely serious unless your immune system is weakened by drugs or disorders.

Prevention of fungal infections

Take care in public places. Since fungal infections are contagious, try to reduce your exposure to public areas where fungal patients may have been. When using public locker rooms, showers, or pools, wear flip flops. Do not share towels or combs in the locker room either
*   Keep your skin clean and dry. Fungi live in warm, moist areas, like between the toes or in the groin. By keeping your skin clean and dry you reduce the potential for infection. There are several things you can do to keep dry.
*    Change your socks.change your socks once daily or twice daily if you sweat a lot. Let your bath towels air dry completely before using them a second time.
*    Apply a drying or medicated powder to the skin. Apply a drying or medicated powder to the skin many times when you are exercising or are going to be in a hot environment.
*    Change your shoes. You should also alternate your shoes so they can dry completely between wearing.

·         *      Sleep 7-8 hours.
·         Adopt healthy living strategy.
·         Maintain a healthy weight.
·         Control your blood pressure.
·         Do not smoke.
