People are exposed to cold and flu daily.The common cold, including chest cold and head cold, and seasonal flu are caused by viruses. Flu symptoms are similar but include fever, headache and muscle soreness.

According to the research, more than 100 different types of viruses can cause the common cold. However, the rhinovirus is most common of them, and it’s highly contagious. Other cold causing agents are coronaviruses and respiratory syncytial viruses. Most cold-causing viruses attack in environments with low humidity, which may be why colds are more common during the fall and winter months.

While Flu or Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses types A, B, and C. Both type A and type B flu viruses are responsible for the seasonal flu. Type A flu viruses are found in many different animals, including ducks, and horses. Influenza B viruses circulate widely only among humans. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year.

Symptoms of Cold and Flu


Symptoms of a common cold usually appear one to three days after exposure to a cold-causing virus. Signs and symptoms, which can vary from person to person, might include:
a runny nose, sneezing, cough, sore throat, and low-grade fever.
Symptoms of the flu include fever, headache, fatigue, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults).

TIP#1 Wash your hands

It’s a fact: That elevator button or doorknob you just touched? It likely has flu germs on it.Its germs can live alive for more than two hours. If you're avoiding the flu take note. Then wash those hands. Wash your hands thoroughly several times a day.

If you also come in contact with people who are contagious, you have to wash your hands over and over, Either use water or some antibacterial sanitizer. This will minimize the chances of getting the germs into you, While washing the hands scrub it for 15 to 20 seconds. It sounds so simple. By this germs will be removed 0f your skin.

TIP#2 Avoid the company of the sick people

Sick people are continuously spreading germs while sneezing and coughing.So try to avoid close contact with people who are sick. Viruses can transmit through the air so it should be avoided.Try to use towels while you are in the company of sick persons.Try not to shake hands with the sick people.

TIP#3 Keep up a healthy lifestyle.

It's important to take care of your health.Pass your day as normal. But take some rest in between. Get good nutrition to help your body get full nourishment.Try to avoid smoking.Keep your allergies under control, because if they’re out of control, then your upper respiratory tract is already inflamed, which sets it up to more easily acquire a virus.

Doctors recommend this that we should drink about eight glasses of water a day to stay healthy. According to a research, Water helps the kidneys function properly and flushes out the toxins that accumulate in our bodies.

If you are having a cold, being dehydrated makes your mucus drier and thicker and less able to cope against invading bacteria and viruses. If you've already caught a cold, drinking plenty of fluids will help flush out the infection.
